The YAC 2020 Tree House design competition was centered around old castle ruins in France and creating spaces for visitors to stay in while immersed in the site. Intertwining the natural surroundings of castle ruins with new architecture, the Tree House competition project focuses on the relationship between discarded materials and ways in which to reimagine and repurpose them. By introducing the concept of new life, purpose, and form to a site that currently houses castle ruins, our design concept embraces the natural setting the ruins rest in while creating new spaces that blend with the surrounding trees and landscape. As if growing upwards from the earth, the tree houses pay homage to the castles of the past while overlooking the reimagined present.
