An adaptive reuse of a print shop located in Old Town Scottsdale, Bourbon and Bones’ original structure included four bearing walls with a concrete T-roof structure, allowing for glass on four corners of the building. The layout maintains the glass on three of its corners, flooding the private dining room, main dining area and bar with ample sunlight and visibility. A patio couldn’t be constructed due to sight constrains, so all of the glass windows pocket on the northeast corner in order to hide behind the existing bearing walls, connecting the bar area to the building’s exterior. Given the name of the restaurant, in our concept design we chose to expose the “bones” of the structure, use meat hooks as part of the lighting design and bringing in warm tones with the finishes and woods for the “bourbon.”
